State statistician announces retirementHomer "Red" Rowley, State Statistician with the Oregon Agricultural Statistics Service (OASS), is retiring effective January 3. Rowley came to OASS in 1994 and has assisted Oregon producers, commodity commissions, ag organizations, and state agencies such as the Oregon Department of Agriculture helping tell the story of agriculture with numbers. "We have greatly appreciated Red's contributions the past seven years," says ODA Director Phil Ward. "His commitment and dedicated service to the industry has been a benefit to all of us." Janice Goodwin has been named to succeed Rowley as State Statistician, effective March 25. Oregon Ag Fest seeks nominationsNominations are now being accepted for next year's Ag Fest Ag Stars two awards handed to those who have made significant contributions to Oregon agriculture. Nominations are being taken statewide for both the Individual Award and the Business or Organization Award. Nomination forms are available through the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce at (503) 581-1466. The deadline for nominations is February 22. Oregon Ag Fest is created to help better educate the public especially kids about agriculture's economic impact, logistics and practices. Each April, Ag Fest presents a two-day, hands-on event at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem, with the goal of providing a look at agriculture in fun and educational ways. |
