MSI Manure Spreading Index
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Issued at 11:00 a.m. PST
Today: Manure spreading is considered "Generally Okay" for all zones.
Wednesday: The MSI is forecast to climb into the "Not Advisable" range along the north coastal zone but
remain in the "Generally Okay" range in all other zones.
Thursday: The MSI is forecast to climb into the "Not Advisable" range for all zones, except for possibly
in the southwestern valleys, where it may only reach the high end of the "Use Caution" range.
Weather Discussion:
Western Oregon will get a break from any precipitation today, as another in a series of weather systems
moves south of the state, into California. A warm front will spread rain onto the north coast around
midday Wednesday, pushing south and east, across western Oregon, Wednesday afternoon and night. The
trailing cold front will enhance the rainfall Thursday morning, greatly increasing soil saturation and run-off
potential. The steady rain will turn to showers Thursday afternoon, with showers tapering off late in the day.
